PD Dr. Patrick Badertscher receives the 2025 Research Award
from the Basel Cardiovascular Foundation
The Basel Cardiovascular Foundation has awarded the 2025 Research Award to
PD Dr. Patrick Badertscher. With this award, the Foundation recognizes
exceptional scientific achievement of particular significance for the CRIB/USB.
PD Dr. Badertscher has successfully secured a research grant from the Swiss National
Science Foundation (SNSF) as part of the highly competitive IICT (Investigator-Initiated
Clinical Trial) call for proposals. The grant, worth over CHF 1.5 million, will enable the
implementation of a Switzerland-wide clinical research project on drug therapy for patients
with atrial fibrillation.
The project builds on the groundbreaking work of CRIB/USB in the field of atrial fibrillation,
particularly the Swiss-AF study led by Prof. Michael Kühne.
By awarding the 2025 Research Prize, the Basel Cardiovascular Foundation
recognizes both the scientific achievements of PD Dr. Badertscher and the
outstanding research strength of CRIB/USB.

Dr. Peter Hämmerle receives a Grant for the Swiss-AF Autonomics
Project from the Swiss Foundation for Rhythmology
The “Swiss-AF Autonomics” project investigates whether atrial fibrillation recurrence can be
predicted based on heart rate variability in patients undergoing pulmonary vein isolation via
pulsed-field ablation for the first time.
The goal is to develop digital ECG biomarkers that can be used in clinical practice to modify
ablation strategies in the future. Patient recruitment takes place exclusively at the University
Hospital Basel. “Swiss-AF Autonomics” is affiliated with the “Swiss-AF PVI Registry” and is
co-supervised by Prof. Meyer-Zürn and Prof. Kühne.
